AYIPN strongly condemns the massacre of the Negros 19 and the continuing militarization in Negros Island by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The victims, including youth, journalist, activists and civilians, were reportedly part of communities long facing landlessness, poverty, state repression, and intensified military operations in rural areas of Negros.
For years, peasants, human rights defenders, and community organizers in the island have been subjected to harassment, red-tagging, forced displacement, and killings amid ongoing land struggles and calls for social justice.
We call for justice and accountability for the Negros 19, and for the full respect of International Humanitarian Law and human rights.
We salute the youth martyrs who courageously immersed in the rural communities of Negros Island to learn from and stand with the struggles of the peasants. Their commitment to serving the people and amplifying the realities on the ground will never be forgotten. Their sacrifice strengthens the commitment of Indigenous youth to remain with their communities and continue defending ancestral lands, and self-determination against militarization and oppression.
