The Asia Young Indigenous Peoples Network (AYIPN) joins Indigenous communities across the globe in commemorating the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Women and Girls on September 5, 2026.
AYIPN stands with Indigenous women and girls across Asia who continue to defend their lands, rights, and communities.
Across the region, Indigenous women and girls continue to face harassment, violence, discrimination, criminalization, and other human rights violations, particularly when Indigenous lands and territories are threatened by extractive industries and development projects. They also continue to experience limited access to basic social services, including education, healthcare, and other essential services, particularly in remote Indigenous communities. These challenges do not stop Indigenous women from taking leadership roles as organizers, knowledge holders, and defenders of their lands and communities.
AYIPN recognizes the important contributions of Indigenous women and stands in solidarity with their struggle for the recognition, respect, and protection of their rights.
We call for an end to the criminalization, harassment, and violence against Indigenous women defenders and human rights defenders. We also call for accessible and quality education, healthcare, and social services for Indigenous Peoples.
AYIPN vows to continue to support and empower Indigenous women and girls and make sure they have a place in the decisions that affect their communities and their future.
