Last April 28, Indigenous youth delegates from across Southeast Asia were special guests at the Radyo Sagada studio. Based in the heart of the Cordillera mountains, Radyo Sagada 104.7 FM is more than just a local station; it has long served as a crucial voice for the community, sharing stories of Indigenous life, local struggles, and the vibrant culture of the region. The station opened its doors to a group of inspiring youth delegates from the Philippines, West Papua, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Uchina Loocho. These delegates were in the country primarily for the Southeast Asia Indigenous Youth Leaders and Guardianship Gathering, with their active participation in the People’s Cordillera Day celebrations and a tour of Sagada, culminating in this radio guesting serving as the key highlights of their journey. Manang Gwen Longid led the interview, creating a warm, open space for everyone to share their experiences.
During the interview, the delegates articulated the powerful, shared journey of these young leaders. Despite coming from different countries and speaking different languages, they quickly found common ground in their collective fight to protect their ancestral lands and preserve their traditions. This interview provided an important platform for the delegates to amplify their perspectives and discuss the advocacy they lead in their respective communities. Throughout the interview, they underscored their unwavering commitment to ensuring that their culture and land are kept safe for the next generation.
