Becoming Ecosystem Champions brought together Indigenous youth and young advocates from around the world — united in protecting our lands, cultures, and the environment.
Huge thanks to our partners at the UNFCCC, our amazing speakers, and everyone who joined and shared their insights throughout the sessions.
One of the highlights of the series was the screening of “Panagsupyat” — a powerful short film that shares the story of Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines, standing up for their lands, and the future of their communities.
For many participants, Panagsupyat was more than just a film — it was a mirror of their own realities and struggles. They shared how the story inspired them to continue their work in protecting their territories, revitalizing their cultures, and defending the environment against exploitation.
The series also featured insightful discussions from Catherine Dalon of the Lumad youth in the Philippines, who shared about the crucial role of Indigenous women and youth in protecting ancestral lands, and Gunjal Ikir Munda from India, who spoke about community-led conservation and the intergenerational transmission of Indigenous knowledge as vital in addressing the climate crisis.
Together, through the Becoming Ecosystem Champions series, we have created a space for learning, solidarity, and collective action — where Indigenous youth and other young advocates around the world can inspire and strengthen each other.
We look forward to more collaborations and actions for and with Indigenous youth across Asia and beyond!
