Reflection from 2nd AIYP General Assembly and the 3rd Asia Indigenous Peoples Youth Conference in Chiang Mai

Continuing our series on the learnings shared during the 2nd AIYP General Assembly and the 3rd Asia Indigenous Peoples Youth Conference in Chiang Mai — now let’s hear from Nepal, where the youth are rising and demanding justice, accountability, and real representation. Despite repression, the youth have shown the power of solidarity— echoing the same lessons shared by Indigenous youth at the conference.

Listen to the insights of Dev Bahing from Youth Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, Nepal (YFIN):

“Indigenous youth carry a dual responsibility on their shoulders. They must preserve their culture and community while simultaneously making progress toward modernity. To establish themselves in the mainstream, they still need to struggle a lot.

Indigenous youth are not just an age group; they also represent a worldview shaped by indigeneity, and this perspective must also be inherent within them.”
