Continuing with the sharings from 2nd AIYP General Assembly and the 3rd Asia Indigenous Peoples Youth Conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand, we now journey to North East India. Let us hear the voice of Sarlongbi Bey of Karbi Human Rights Watch.
“From the activity that I have attended I have learned from my elder brothers and sisters that Indigeneity means the identity, culture and heritage of Indigenous peoples. Land and territorial rights are imperative because land is how we make a living and identity, but also integral in climate change action. Safeguarding land and territorial rights requires laws, councils and cultural institutions.
I have learned that the Indigenous youth can contribute to land and territorial rights by providing advocacy, participation and sustenance of traditions. “
