We urge all Indigenous youth to support our brothers and sisters in the Philippines. 13 individuals, including Lumad teachers, advocates, lay people and longtime activists, collectively dubbed as the Talaingod 13 have been met with trumped up charges and an unjust conviction for their work in supporting the rights of Lumad children to education.
July 15 marks two years since the conviction against them was made, and created an
ever-present threat to their liberties. Furthermore, this sets a dangerous precedent for others seeking to extend support to Indigenous Peoples by criminalizing advocacy and solidarity work.
The Defend Talaingod 13 Network has called for a Global Day of Action to Defend Talaingod 13. We at IPMSDL and AYIPN moved to adopt this campaign. We are requesting your support by taking a photo of yourselves with the printed or handmade calls expressing support to the day of action, likewise we encourage you to release written or video statements, hold actions, and other forms of expressing your solidarity.
